The Door Can Now Be Opened

Thanks to God's Helping Hands members, Teddy Summit, Randy Camper and Bob Turner (animated by Helen McKenna) the door to our bible study area can be opened and it has a real lock and not just propped up with a chair.

Our door can now always be opened, at least on Monday nights.
Three mighty men of valor!

Revelation 3:20
20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

GHH Helps Out!

Our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity has recently been building a home on Bristol VA and some of God's Helping Hands have been helping out as available. Hugh Wise has been directing the build and has spent many hours on the job. Also our Wabi-Sabi Sister Melissa Turner went down and worked as a hostess. Here is a photo of the house in progress. It has since been completed.

God's Helping Hands and Wabi-Sabi women are always looking for opportunities to serve and work with other groups in the community to help set up people to serve where they are needed and gifted.

IT'S A WOW-WOW??

It's a
WOW-WOW!!!!!
What's a WOW-WOW, you ask?
It's a celebration, a get-together, and a great opportunity to thank and honor the Lord for a harvest of blessings this year.
It's the 1st Annual
Wabi-Sabi Wow Wow
Celebration of Harvest
The Wabi-Sabi Women in partnership with God's Helping Hands are getting together for a great day of fun and fellowship to thank God for His many blessings to us over the last year.
We've planned a whole day of family fun for our friends at Highlands Fellowship as well as those from other churches we have served with this year.
There will be apple butter making, lye soap making, butter churning, horseshoe tournament, pumpkin painting and games. Well be taking a fall family picture and we'll have a wonderful fall meal together. We'll have live gospel music and in the evening a devotional and a special time of thanksgiving for our blessings. There'll be a bonfire and a wiener roast. It is just going to be a big day of fun.
Hope to see you all there. If you haven't gotten a flyer let me know. We'd love to have you join us in this very special day of celebration. The kids will have a great time on the farm.
This whole shin-dig is being held on October 25th at Tattle Creek Farm, the home of Ken and Wanda Stevens in Glade Spring. We'll be getting together and getting things underway around noon. We'll be stirring the apple butter, making the soap and churning the
butter while the children explore and enjoy the sights and sounds of the farm. We'll be playing games and horseshoes throughout the afternoon and taking a hayride around the farm.
The price of all this fun you ask? Just your wonderful company, a warm smile and a dish of your choice for the meal. If you can't cook we'll still let you in but it will cost you a hug. We just want this day to be a fun day that everyone will remember for awhile and want to do again next year.
It's a WOW-WOW and you don't want to miss it.

Today was a good day of fellowship for the Wabi-Sabi girls to get together and work on preparations for the upcoming celebration, the 1st annual Wabi-Sabi Wow-Wow, a Celebration of Harvest. Today we made a whole cast of characters to attend the celebration. Be sure and look for them. Be sure and say hi, they are really friendly!!

A special thanks to Wanda Stevens for hosting us all at her farm for this project. This is where the event will be held, Tattle Creek Farm off Indian Run Rd. in Glade Spring. Check back for celebration details!

A Different View

Wanted to share a couple more views of the Cobb home that I received today.

This is a view of the back of the home.
This is the north side.
Here is a view of the front.
We will be getting together a team to return to Mississippi to do some finishing work like painting, trim and installation of cabinets. If you would like to be part of this team be sure and let us know.
It has been so awesome to see this vision become a reality. God is good and He is not done with us yet. I am so looking forward to seeing what He has in store for us next.

One Happy Family!!

We were finally able to get the whole Cobb family together for a picture! Tony with daughter Madison, mother, Laura and baby McKenzie and the boys Tait and Anthony. We pray for this family and the happiness they will experience in this home. We pray that they will remember us as we will always remember them. and pray for God's blessing on them.
Willing Hearts + Selfless Servants = 1 Happy Family
Arlie, Christine, Larry and Wilma worked on finishing up the soffit work at the Cobb home this morning. And started winding things down at that jobsite.
Bob and Teddy went over to finish up the steps for Betty Cox. Here is a smiling Teddy with a thankful Betty.
This afternoon Teddy, Arlie, Christine, Wilma, and Larry started packing up tools and materials for the journey back to VA.
Bob started running with the tractor & trailer to do the moving around at the Lakeshore Church Campus.
The first member of the team has started home. Tony McKenna left this afternoon heading this way. Arlie, Christine, Larry & Wilma leave out at 7 am tomorrow. Teddy, Bob and Melissa will leave on Sunday morning.
Bob will be busy moving trailers, containers, etc. around on the campus tomorrow and Melissa promises to take some pictures tomorrow at the Cobb home now that the yard is cleaned up. She will just be running errands tomorrow and cleaning up and packing up.
I am so proud to be a part of this team and to call these people my friends. God is so good and we are so blessed.
Two new teams arrived at Lakeshore today, one's from Alabama and one from Georgia. The GA group is rebuilding the dining hall and it is looking good. Alot of memories are in Lakeshore for alot of the team members who have served there several times since Hurricane Katrina. It is good to see things moving forward again and to see the church there moving forward and still committed to serving the community around them. Our prayers are with them also as they begin the building process.

Winding Down and Gearing Up!!

Alot is happening with the team in Mississippi as they are preparing to wind down this project and gearing up to head home. Home will sure look good after 5 weeks on the road.
Here is the team on Thursday morning (all except Melissa, she's taking the picture) as they share a moment of fellowship before starting the day.

You can't keep a good man down! In this case, two men! Bob Turner and Teddy Summit go over to the home of Betty Cox in Waveland to build steps up to her home. This will allow her to get an occupancy permit for her new home.

See what I mean, by lunch time they are going up!!!

The Hardie Board Girls are amazing! They've moved on to sawing soffit and caulking! Nothing phases this crew. We love you girls!

Bob and Teddy have returned to the Cobb house and are working on the heat pump.

Friday's plans are for some of the crew to work on the Cobb house and Bob will be moving some trailers that the church needs moved and set-up before he brings the truck home. They are excited about the project and finishing things up but I think they are excited about getting home also.

Pray that all will go well with finishing up and packing for home. Pray for God's traveling mercies. Pray that the impact this team has made on the lives of these people in Mississippi will be felt for years to come.

I, for one, will be glad to see them and have them home! Look out for the upcoming CELEBRATION!!

Alot Going On!

Alot is going on in Lakeshore. As the project nears completion there are many things that need to be finished up. Arlie, Larry and the Hardie Board Girls are working on completing the siding. They are hoping to be finished up by Saturday. Tony is still working on finishing up electrical. Teddy and Bob have been bending metal for trim. They are also working on getting the heat pump on the platform.
Melissa has become the official "gopher" and now chef after Diane Mason went home.
A Wabi-Sabi welcome to the day! The Hardie Board Girls, Christine and Wilma are ready for the day ahead. Melissa is ready for a day filled with errands and cooking and Diane is ready for the trip home.

Jack and Diane visit the work site before leaving for their return to VA.

Time for work to begin!

Pray that God will rain His favor down on this project and on all those who have taken part. Pray that loose ends are quickly tied up and the team is able to come home as scheduled.
